SAMS enlisted the help of a team of renowned researchers to conduct extensive research to better understand the shark’s vision underwater. Specialised molecular biology techniques have been used to study the genes responsible for encoding retinal pigments located in the eyes of some species of great sharks. Thanks to the results of this research, SAMS was able to develop a well-structured set of models designed not to be distinguished or assimilated to prey by a shark. The scientific data from this study made it possible to determine the optimal width and spacing of the strips to maximise the deterrent effect.
